The children of Lacken National School moved into their new school building on January 31st 2011. Each classroom boasts interactive whiteboards and visualizers. In 2018, a new extension was opened which incorporates a new classroom and an ASD unit.
Naíonra Lacken is registered for the Early Childhood Care and Education Scheme (ECCE) Government Pre-School Scheme and also the National Childcare Scheme (NCS).
We offer After-school facilities and there is a bus that brings children from Blessington and surrounding areas to Lacken N.S.
The school is an Active School, where children are involved in different sporting activities from GAA, cross country, kayaking, go-karting, archery, and orienteering. We received our first Active Flag in 2013 and have renewed it twice since, most recently in 2021.
We are part of Green-School Ireland which is an international environmental education programme. We have Five Green flags, our first green flag recognises our efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle waste, our second green flag shows an awareness for energy efficiency, our third green flag shows an awareness for water conservation and efficiency, our fourth green flag focused on travel, our aim to increase the number of students walking, cycling, scooting, using public transport or carpooling to school. Our fifth green flag, for Biodiversity looks at increasing awareness in schools of the importance of native plants, animals and habitats. We are currently working towards our 6th green flag, focusing on the theme of Global Citizenship – Energy.
We have a healthy eating policy where we encourage children to make healthy choices for their lunches. Children are given opportunities to bake healthy treats as well as making healthy lunches and smoothies.
